10、lowfrom2011to2013.Aquarteranalysisoftheperiod2010-15showsthattherewasanincreaseof27%inthefirstquarterin2010and2011.However,therehasbeenadecreasinggrowthinallofthesubsequentquartersthroughout2010-13whichisasurprisingstatistics.5Theofficeoffirstfilinginformationgivesustheratioofpatentfilingdonebydomes

11、ticandforeigncompaniesattheGermanpatentoffice.ResidentVsNon-residentFilingsDuring2010-2015,80%ofthepatentsfiledwiththeGermanPTOhadGermanpriorityandtherest20%hadforeignpriority.Weanalyzedthis20%datainabitmoredetailtofindtheforeigncountriesthatconsiderGermanywhichworldsfourthlargesteconomy,asapotentia

12、lmarketfortheirinventions.TheGermanmarketwhichislargestintheEUdueto,howevernotlimitedto,itslocationatthecenterofEurope,qualityengineering,andfirstclassinfrastructureattractsforeigninvestorsinnumeroussectors.TheUSAfiledthemostnumberofpatentsfollowedbyJapan,SouthKorea,andChina.TheUScompanieswererespon

13、siblefor40%ofthetotalforeignfilinginGermany.Japanesecompaniesfiled27%,SouthKoreancompanies7.8%andChinesecompaniessharewas4.2%inforeignfilingsattheGermanPTO.2.RESIDENTS OR NON-RESIDENTS,WHOARE FILING MORE PATENTS?6TheyearlyfilingdatafortheUSAsuggestsanannualincrementalincreaseduringtheperiod2011-13.O

14、verall,therewasagrowthofnearly37%intheperiod.ThefigureforJapanwas37%whileSouthKoreawascatchingupwith36%.Sincetheoverallfilinghasnotmuchincreased,theincreaseinforeignfilingimpliesthatresidentfilinghasdecreasedovertheperiodoftime.7Duringtheperiodof2010-2015,298,000patentswerefiledwiththeGermanPTOinwhi

15、chmorethan4170IPlawfirmswereinvolved.Outofthetotalpatents,57,317patentswerefiledbynon-Germancompanieswhichwererepresentedby650+differentlawfirms.Thenon-Germancompanieswererepresentedbyonly16%ofthetotallawfirmsofGermany.Otherthanthat,thetop20lawfirmsprosecutedonly25%ofthetotalforeignpatentapplication
