(86 20) 8332 1642 amchamamcham-southchina.org www.amcham-southchina.org D ear Members, In order to determine the extent of difficul- ties created by the Novel Coronavirus Outbreak (COVID-19) and steps taken by various companies, the staff of American Chamber of Commerce in S
4、outh China contacted 399 companies between February 12th and 16th. Since many companies had not yet returned to work during the above dates, many of the corporate executives were contacted at home. The foregoing is a compilation of their responses. While a majority of the companies contacted believe
5、 their revenues will be impacted by the outbreak, many reported to be working overtime to make up for production that has been delayed by the extended holiday and fewer number of employees reporting to work. We had no reports of force majeure being used by either a supplier or customer to mitigate t
6、heir lack of ability to perform. However, some companies anticipate that depending on how long the outbreak will last, they may have to use force majeure as a legal defense or anticipate it will be used by either suppliers and/or their customers. 7、tment (CCPIT) reported on its website that as of February 17, “China has issued more than 1,600 force majeure certificates to shield companies from legal damages arising from the novel corona- virus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.” 为了确定新型冠状病毒(COVID-19)疫情造成 的困难以及各公司采取的应对措施,华南美国商会 的工作人员在2月12日至16日之间联络了399

10、cts, as well as difficulties faced in restarting operations created by various regulating authorities. This was mitigated in many cases through interven- tion by our Chamber and coordination with provincial and local authorities. The Guang- dong Department of Commerce (DOFCOM) in coordination with o
11、ur Chamber established and promoted a hotline specifically for restart- ing difficulties which has helped many of our companies. Our Chamber has also coordinated with Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office and many local governments and is frequently disseminat- ing news, information and new policies to o

Less than 2% indicate that they will change their re-investment plans while of 23% respondents are undecided. Communication between he
16、adquarters and their subsidiaries in China seems to have improved as 97% of the respondents state that their head- quarters have a good handle on the impact of the COVID-19 on their business in China and are ready to provide any assistance needed.
