6、there are plenty of them.2021 will certainly be remembered as a landmark year for SportsTech,crossing 1.8b in investment in Europe.Thats more than the last four years combined.The post pandemic momentum carrying on from Q4 2020 pushed 2021 to new heights.The only question is how much further can we
7、goParis lights up the European landscape this year as the top city by funding,propelling France to the top of the country list.This is all down to one mega 605m funding round for NFT player Sorare.Which is also the main reason Fan Experiences was the top sub-sector and Solutions for Fans accounted f
8、or 48%of all funding in 2021NFTs were the breakout topic of the year,turning companies that started in basements into multi-billion Euro entities in one short year.FootballTech also had a great year but its clear that Europe is lacking a clear investment identity of its own,mainly riding the wave of

52、05000200202021Record average,median deal valuesTo call 2021 a record breaking year for SportsTech is puting it mildly.So lets start with a significant fact:investment in 2021 surpassed the four previous years combined.That already says quite a lot.The fast growing sector seems to have off
53、icially crossed over from being considered a niche segment within sports to becoming an important driver of investments in the overall industry.If anyone in the industry wasnt paying atention yet,they certainly are now.Afer a strong lead-in with Q4 2020 crossing 137m,2021 started with a bang seeing
54、196m in Q1.That figure only got bigger with Q2 crossing 550m and Q3 an astronomical 795m!Some cooling off was required in Q4,ending at 110m as it seemed like investors needed to catch their breath.The average deal size grew to a staggering 15m(4m in 2019&2020)while Median deal size crossed the 1m ma
55、rk for the first time,at 1.2m.Also worth noting that also for the first time in five years,the number of deals completed increased from the previous year.So,what was driving all this investment?Everyones new favourite acronym NFTs come in pole position,FitnessTech had another strong year but the sur

58、onsistent top 10Nowadays it is not so rare to see France at the top of the country funding charts given that it is home to one of the biggest sports NFT companies in the world,Sorare.UK and Germany round out the top 3,which remains the same as last year.They are also the top 3 for number of deals ov
59、er the last 5 years,though in a slightly different order(UK,Germany,France)so remain the most important countries for SportsTech in Europe.Afer the big 3,the ecosystem remains fairly consistent with not much change compared to last years report.Denmark was the exception and the big winner afer fundi
60、ng rounds for Lenus Health and Veo in 2021,pushing it into the top 5 in 2021 and the top 10 since 2017.Spain was the other big winner in 2021,rising three places up into 6th.This is primarily due to a big round for Playtomic,but Spain also had the 3rd highest number of deals in 2021,behind only the
61、UK and Germany.Encouraging signs for a country that we have always believed has a lot of potential.Isle of Man makes an entry into the top 10 in 2021 with Esports beting companies Rivalry and Luckbox taking advantage of the favourable regulations.This came at the cost of Sweden and Israel who droppe

65、deals with 150+completed,almost three times Paris in second.Germany flexes its muscles with three cities in the top 10 since 2017,the most weve seen from a single country since we started compiling this list.Hamburg broke into the top 10 while Berlin consolidated its 3rd place in 2020 with another 3
66、rd in 2021,also entering the top 3 overall for the first time.Seems like winter is done for this bear.New names in the 2021 list with Copenhagen and Douglas making their first appearance.Interestingly,the percentage of top deal in both cities is 70%or lower.This is uncommon for new cities entering t
67、he list as they usually appear on the back of one startup raising a big funding round.Strong signs for what seem to be growing ecosystems.The other big winner is Madrid,the first Spanish entry into the top 10 ever,on the back of Playtomics 52m funding round.This also brought Madrid to 11th place in

85、 world is paid over 130m/year,you know things are heating up.By comparison,Dapper Labs pays the NBA&NFL 20m/year each.In fact,its hard to have a conversation in sports right now without NFTs coming up.As shown on the table alongside,all the major European leagues have signed NFT partnerships,and all

191、uropean SportsTech.Here are some key things to know about how this analysis was approached.While we always want to be as inclusive as possible,we have applied certain criteria to ensure that all data is representative of current trends.All companies founded before the year 2000 have been excluded.On
192、ly currently active companies have been considered for the startups related data.Only deals announced during the period of Jan 1,2017-Dec 31,2021 were considered,(excluding the Top 10 most funded startups where the all-time total was presented).Deals completed in that period for companies that are n
193、ot currently active have also been included.As in every year we expect some amount of reporting lag as not all deals from last year would have been announced.As a result we have added 10%to the total funding value reported for 2021.All deals are reported in EUR.For deals not in EUR,the average conve
194、rsion rate for the deal currency to EUR in the deal year was utilised.Only funding deals have been considered,mergers and acquisitions between entities have been excluded.For example the Paddy Power and Sky Bet merger in 2019.As far as possible we have obtained public domain sources for all the deal
195、s that we report on.This includes funding announcements made on a variety of media channels.eSports game publishers,teams and leagues have been excluded as they dont find space in our framework.In general eCommerce based solutions have been excluded,as those form part of the Web 1.0.So while there h
196、as been innovation in products,the format itself isnt new.Israel and Russia are counted as part of Europe.And since 2020 we have also added Israel as part of this report.One last thing:As always,our team spends countless hours pouring over interviews and data around startups and funding rounds,but t
