2、nies pulled back on scaling teams and even laid off workers theyd hired only months before.Despite these obstacles,signs indicate global remote hiring remains confident in Europe,with employers especially interested in experienced talent with specialised skill sets.At Hired,we aspire to make hiring
3、as efficient,equitable,and transparent as possible,for the best experience for all parties.Whether backfilling roles or advancing initiatives,we help companies of all sizes fill tech and sales roles with unbiased insights,diversity,equity&inclusion(DEI)tools,skills assessments,and dedicated Customer
4、 Success managers.In this report,weve specifically studied software engineers on the Hired marketplace to identify the top issues and trends.This includes looking at the most in-demand skills and roles,salaries,and shifts to remote hiring.We provide more details in the Methodology section,but this i
5、s based on more than 76K interview requests(IVRs)between employers and(more than 9K)candidates on the Hired marketplace.Weve supplemented the platform data with survey responses from more than 1300 software engineers and 120 talent professionals and Hiring managers.We aim to provide organisations wi

7、gy3Key Findings Despite volatility in the market,engineers are largely optimistic about the future.When asked about the ripples of downsizing in the industry,68%of engineers remain confident theyll remain employed.As lifelong learners,69%of software engineers are highly motivated by new challenges a
8、nd continuous learning.Others are motivated to pursue the profession by building products/solutions and problem-solving(66%)and third,earning potential and career stability(60%).Salaries grew year over year,some as much as 18%.Overall,UK engineering salaries increased by 8%YoY(2021 to 2022).For UK e
9、mployers,the most in-demand skill from software engineers overall is Redux,the same as last year.In 2022,software engineers in the UK received an average of 5.7 interview requests.Engineers with Redux aptitude received 1.45x the interview requests compared to the average candidate.The most in-demand
10、 skills from UK employers are Redux,TypeScript,and React Native,respectively.Backend,full stack,and frontend engineers are still highly sought after by employers.Repeating 2021,the top three most in-demand roles are for backend,full stack,and frontend engineers,in that order.They receive the majorit

12、e engineering skills Which tech skills are most in demand for UK engineers?The top two spots remain JavaScript-based skills,Redux and Typescript,with a number of others in the top 10.The most in-demand software engineering skill from employers was Redux,as candidates listing it received 1.45x more i
13、nterview requests compared to the marketplace average.This relatively new open-source JavaScript library developed by Facebook,now Meta,is most commonly used to scale applications in front-end development with common JavaScript-based applications such as React or Angular.TypeScript was the next most
14、 in-demand skill,with software engineers receiving 1.43x more interview requests for this compared to the marketplace average.Typescript,similar to Redux,was developed by Microsoft in the last decade and was designed for the development of large applications and transpiles to JavaScript.Unseating Go
15、 for third place for most popular skills in 2022,was React Native,an open-source UI framework created by Meta Platforms,Inc.,in 2015.Its used to create applications for Android,iOS,macOS,Web,Windows,and more.It allows software developers to use the React framework along with native platform capabili
16、ties.If we dig deeper and compare the skills most in demand by employers in remote roles versus local roles,there is little change.For local roles,the top three skills in demand by employers are Redux,Typescript,and Node.Js.React Native,which rounds out the top 3 for overall interview requests,is fo

37、2021.In 2023,the second-highest paid roles on average are search engineers,up from third last year,with a 4%increase to 89K.Security and machine learning engineers tie for third place with average salary of-fers of 87K,up 14%and 12%from 2021,respectively.So,while gaming,security,and machine learning

46、sis on local(meaning fully in-office or hybrid)working environments.For context,Toronto,Canada,sent only 41.9%of IVRs for local roles.In the US,Tampa only sent 17.5%of IVRs for local roles.When compared to 2021,London increased the percentage of IVRs to remote talent by 1.7%.So what does this mean?T
47、raditionally London employers,and to a greater extent,UK employers overall,have been less likely to embrace remote working,despite the general preference for it by employees,and the DEI advantages of doing so.That said,its encouraging to see salary parity for local and remote engineering roles.“Base

52、we see average salaries for local roles grew 8%over 2021 to 82K,but grew 9%for remote roles in London to 84K.For candidates listing their location as“greater London,”salaries grew 11%to 82K for local roles,while remote roles in Greater London grew 10%to 80K.Manchester local salaries grew 18%YoY to 8
53、0K,whilst remote roles there grew 5%to 78K.Bristol local salaries shrunk by 6%to 72K,as remote ones grew 14%to 82K.Average remote salaries also grew in:Edinburgh by 7%to 76K Glasgow by 11%to 77K Cambridge by 15%to 86K.Overall,average salaries grew in multiple UK cities from 2021 to 2022,between 1.7
